I first started with air displays via the Clophill Fete, Dog Show and Air Display. Clophill is a village in mid-Bedfordshire that used to have an amazing air display in conjunction with its annual village fete. In later years we have had USAF B-1 and B-52s! I claim to be the only person in the UK who has worked a B-52 on UHF from a village hall roof.

I was then invited by the de Havilland Moth Club to help with their prestigious Woburn Moth Rally, and became part of the organising group for the event. There is something magical about creating an air strip at a venue such as Woburn Abbey for just two days a year. I also help organise the deHMC Charity Flying weekends, originally at Old Warden and now currently at RAF Halton, and provide the Air/Ground service at these events. This year we created an airstrip at Houghton Hall in Norfolk.

I am also a Flight Information Service Officer (FISO) at the Shuttleworth Trust's Old Warden aerodrome and provide a FIS at their air displays and other events.

In 1998 I was asked to become a volunteer at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, helping organise the hot air balloons. I am not a balloonist but RIAT never give you a job you know anything about! In 2004 I took over as Balloon Master and hold that post today.

I have provided 'full' air traffic control for the Aerofair at North Weald and for the Great Vintage Flying Weekend at Abingdon, Hullavington and Keevil, writing the Manual of Air Traffic Services part II for these events.

I have provided Air/Ground services at some 15 different locations in recent years. I draw a distinction between A/G at an 'everyday' airfield and one at a special event where it is possible to have 3-400 movements, something I term a 'Robust Air/ Ground service' . . . .

I have all my own equipment and can provide a comprehensive service in the middle of nowhere, even without mains power!
