I've wanted to
research our family history for some time but
started too late, when my father and his brothers and sisters
were no longer with us. It's much easier to ask aunts and uncles about
the family than trying to trace through the records. Nevertheless, I've
got some way with it and hope to do more soon.
My family have always spelt the surname
Le-Vien although since delving into my family history I have always
suspected that Le Vien was probably more correct, or even Levien.
However, I have a photograph of my Grandfather, taken in
Beaumaris, Anglesey, in about 1899, with his 'F Le-Vien's Black
Star Minstrels' which clearly shows the hyphen in the name.
My Grandfather, Fred Le-Vien, married
Martha Green in Bangor on 10 September 1900. His age is given as
27. They moved to Manchester and lived there until he died on 15 July
1942, when his age is given as 73. So, it is likely that he would have been born around
1869-1873 yet I am unable to find any trace of his birth.
His marriage certificate states his father was also Fred Le-Vien and was
deceased in 1900.
Where did my Grandfather come from and why did he end up in Beaumaris? He certainly wasn't Welsh!
